Here’s an item for the onboarding checklist that’s sure to be more fun than almost all the others, for you and for the new employee.

Those of you who have kids may already be in the habit of sending questionnaires to teachers at the beginning of the school year to get to know them a little and to know what kinds of holiday and end-of-year gifts they might appreciate. You can do that as you onboard new employees too!

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the concept, the idea is to capture the employee’s preferences on a variety of things, which makes it easier to get simple, personalized gifts for them on their work anniversaries.

Capturing with an electronic form is better, but if you want to do it on paper, here are editable print-outs you can use. (To edit the Google Doc, choose File | Save as Copy.)
